Dr. Irvin D. Yalom and Sakino
When Dr. Yalom wept
Thousands of people, from all over the world, joined us yesterday evening, for a heart-to-heart meeting with Dr. Irvin Yalom and Sakino.
Dr. Yalom, or as he likes to be called, Irv, 93 years old, sat in front of us, humane, sensitive, honest and humble, and in his kind, wise eyes, which occasionally shed a tear, he hugged us all.
Sakino sat next to him, in this inner silence and the compassionate eyes, so characteristic of her, with these precise and sensitive words, which come out and reach straight to the heart, she held the space for us and Irvin's hand.
That's how they sat, close, holding hands and opened their hearts to us.
and among all the words, questions, answers,
There was a clear message from both, in words, in their gestures, in their tears, in all their being and inspiration:
Dare to be human.
As friends
Family members
Neighbors
Therapists
As human beings.
Dare to be human.
Perhaps this is the most important lesson.
I am writing here and tears of gratitude are flowing from my eyes.
There are no words to describe how grateful I am, to Dr. Irvin Yalom, for everything he has been for this world for so many years.
For his uncompromising kindness, for the human genius which is so characteristic of him, for his unprecedented contribution to the world of therapy.
Thank you for this generous, embracing, comforting and empowering gift of love.
I am eternally grateful to My teacher, my beloved friend of my heart, my inspiration, Sakino, for everything she has been for me in the past years.
A woman who is a fountain of wisdom, power, tenderness, precision, kindness and beauty.
It is a great privilege for me to study by your side and produce for you the trainings of new generations of therapists.
Thank you to Chaitanyo and Dharma, my beloveds, for all the technical work, the complexed and demanding side of the meeting, thank you for hours and hours of work so that we can all receive this tremendous gift that Dr. Yalom and Sakino gave us.
